Ghost Saddle Pads

Ghost makes an extremely nice pad, durable and functional while still remaining affordable. Many people buy these for other saddles including BMSS, Freeform, and even treed saddles.

The pad's topside material is Airshell, a durable fabric that withstands riding long miles and daily use. It is breathable and is offered in a variety of colors to choose from.

Underside material options include:
Sympanova - soft rubber in a waffle pattern, easy to clean, breathable. Not recommended for extremely hot climates (AZ, TX, etc)
White, Black, or Brown wool blend - moisture wicking, durable, good shock absorption
Vella - medical grade synthetic lambskin, extra protection for providing spine channel clearance. Great choice for long distance riders!
Medicinal Sheepskin - a dense, thick wool that is an excellent choice for sensitive skinned horses, distributes pressure more evenly, stops friction, absorbs moisture. This backing can be a slightly slicker, not recommended for wide horses with a low/mutton wither.

1cm inserts are standard. This thickness works great for a large majority of horses.
2cm inserts are recommended if the rider exceeds 185lbs or if the horse has an atrophied back, this option may be a better choice to ensure your horse's spine is well protected.

All pads are shimmable. Access to the pad inserts is from a velcro opening on the side of the pad.

Black pads with Sympanova backing are most often in stock.

All other pad options are custom ordered from Italy. They are not eligible for exchange or return. The turnaround time varies, but is most often approximately two months.

The website automatically charges a flat $10.95 shipping fee. Larger accessories, such as saddle pads, are sent via UPS and the shipping cost varies based on location. You will be contacted by me to approve an exact shipping amount.

Mini Fenders

Ghost's Mini Fenders are an excellent alternative to fleece stirrup covers that put a stop to pinching and chafing, keeping you comfortable for miles. They're an easy to maintain accessory that offers a barrier between your leg and a sweaty horse, without the need for half chaps to avoid stirrup strap "bites".

The Mini Fenders are great choice if you prefer less bulk than a standard western fender and a cleaner look than a traditional fleece cover.

Installation is easy. Attach the English stirrups as you normally would to the 1" BioThane English Stirrup Strap, then slide the stirrups straps through the built-in channel inside the mini fender. Secure the Velcro tab that wraps under the stirrup and holds it in place for added stability.

Standard Length in black micronappa are kept in stock, other colors or materials may have to be ordered from Italy (typically a two month turnaround time).

Measurements are only of the fender's channel (where you slide the stirrup strap through), this measurement does not include the 1" BioThane stirrup strap that attaches the fender to the saddle. Short is 11" Standard is 13" Long is 15"

The Mini Fenders work best with the Ghost English Stirrup Straps and other thin BioThane stirrup straps. They do not fit onto traditional thick leathers, nor the T-straps or Conway buckle stirrup straps.

If the color and/or material choice you're looking for is not listed, please contact me to obtain information regarding price and availability.

Micropell has a heft similar to real leather, it's very hardy and a bit slicker like natural leather. Also a good option for those who ride in wet weather or want a synthetic option that is heavier duty than Micronappa.

*Note regarding natural leathers: shades of leather vary from hide to hide, please be aware that if your saddle was ordered at a separate time from your other leather accessories, there could be a variation in color.

Western Fenders & Narrow Fenders

Western fenders are a great accessory if you want to change the look of your saddle, prefer more stability for your lower leg than an English stirrup strap offers, or need to put a layer between your leg and a sweaty horse.

Ghost offers two styles of western fenders, Narrow and Standard. The narrow option is an excellent choice if you prefer less bulk and the standard option is better suited for riders who prefer to add a more traditional western look to their saddle.

Standard and Short Lengths in black micronappa and black oiled nubuck are kept in stock, other colors or materials may have to be ordered from Italy (typically a two month turnaround time).

Measurements are only of the fender, this measurement does not include the 1" BioThane strap that attaches the fender to the saddle. Short is 14" Standard is 16" Long is 18"

Functional range for the Standard length is 19" - 23" from stirrup ring to stirrup top bar.

Any stirrup with an open concept will fit onto the Ghost western fender. Stirrups that have a designated slot to attach to the stirrup leather are intended to fit an English stirrup strap and will not fit on the buckle of the western fenders.

Knowing the stirrups Top Bar Width is required to properly fit a western fender.
The stirrup's top bar width measures the area of space where the stirrup attaches to the western fender.
If your stirrup measures 2-1/2" at it's narrowest point, you'll want to select a 2" fender to allow the fender bottom to properly secure and support the stirrup.
If you use a stirrup with a 3" top bar and a 1" fender, you will have 2" of wiggle room in the stirrup and create an instability for the rider.
If the rider is unstable, it requires the horse to unnecessarily compensate for the imbalance.

If the color and/or material choice you're looking for is not listed, please contact me to obtain information regarding price and availability.
*Note regarding natural leathers: shades of leather vary from hide to hide, please be aware that if your saddle was ordered at a separate time from your other leather accessories, there could be a variation in color.

English Slip-On Fenders

Ghost's English Slip-On Fenders are a happy medium between having freedom of movement with an English stirrup strap while still maintaining a barrier between your leg and a sweaty horse. They're also an excellent alternative to fleece stirrup covers to put a stop to pinching and chafing, keeping you comfortable for miles.

The English Slip-On Fenders are an excellent choice if you prefer less bulk than a standard western fender.

Installation is easy and they are quickly interchangeable if you decide you need to add or remove the fenders for a specific ride. Attach the English stirrups as you normally would to the 1" BioThane English Stirrup Strap, then slide the stirrups straps through the built-in channel on the fender and instantly have a different look and setup.

Standard Length in black micronappa and black oiled nubuck are kept in stock, other colors or materials may have to be ordered from Italy (typically a two month turnaround time).

Measurements are only of the fender's channel (where you slide the stirrup strap through), this measurement does not include the 1" BioThane stirrup strap that attaches the fender to the saddle. Short is 12" Standard is 14" Long is 16"

The Slip-On Fenders work best with the Ghost English Stirrup Straps and other thin BioThane stirrup straps. They do not fit onto traditional thick leathers, nor the T-straps or Conway buckle stirrup straps.

If the color and/or material choice you're looking for is not listed, please contact me to obtain information regarding price and availability.

*Note regarding natural leathers: shades of leather vary from hide to hide, please be aware that if your saddle was ordered at a separate time from your other leather accessories, there could be a variation in color.

English Stirrup Straps & Keepers

Ghost's Stirrup Straps are made with 1" width Granite BioThane.

BioThane is a polyester webbing which features a comfortable, matte, thermoplastic polyurethane coating. The Granite series of TPU coating makes the material incredibly strong, abrasion resistance, waterproof, and easy to maintain.

The Stirrup Straps are low profile, unlike bulky traditional English leathers, making your leg less likely to notice the strap running under your saddle's flap.
Standard Length stirrup straps in black are kept in stock, brown stirrup straps be ordered from Italy (typically a two month turnaround time). These are the only two color choices available for stirrup straps.
If you prefer a webber style strap, check out the T-bar and Conway Straps.

Stirrup Strap Keepers are Velcro sleeves to hold the end of your stirrup straps neat and tidy. Black micronappa are kept in stock, other colors and materials can be ordered from Italy (typically a two month turnaround time).
Alternative styles of Stirrup Strap Keepers are the Ghost Mini Fenders and English Slip-On Fenders.

Conway Stirrup Straps

These are also a webber style strap as there is a nylon loop at the top that goes through the stirrup strap ring and then the adjustment is made with a Conway buckle. There is an advantage over the T-bar straps because the T-bar doesn't fit through the slot of many english irons. But these do work best for people who run their stirrup straps under the flap as the stitched overlap of the nylon loop to the granite biothane strap can rub the outside of the flap.
Also best for less strenuous riding as the nylon loop can move sideways and put torque on the front or back of the stirrup ring if the rider's legs aren't in a shoulder-hip-heel alignment.
Best configuration is to have the Conway point away from the rider's leg which points it forward, also away from the horse, but there is a snug keeper to hold everything in place. For people who regularly change stirrup length for students or Ride&Tie partners, arrange the top layer of the strap on the post side of the Conway for easiest changes.

Shims

Shims are a fantastic resource to help ensure proper fit and balance of the saddle for both horse and rider.

Shims aid in support and adjust for a better saddle fit by lifting the front of the saddle off the horse's shoulders, allowing better working range of motion and avoiding the rider placing unintentional pressure and stress near the withers. Shims can offer the necessary lift to balance the rider and avoid putting the horse on his forehand.

Depending upon where your horse's anatomy and motion affect the saddle's placement and movement, the rider may feel tipped forward in their saddle's seat, shims can assist in leveling out the saddle.

Additionally, as your horse's physique changes, shims are intended to be modified and adjusted to assist in maintaining balance if a horse is downhill, has one shoulder larger than the other, starts or stops consistently in exercise, changes shape with growth or aging, etc.

If your horse has one shoulder larger than the other, add shims the side of the smaller shoulder. Panel shims or pad shims work best to correct this issue.

If your horse is downhill, pocket shims provide the biggest lift to the front of the saddle and work best to correct this issue.

There are three different types of shims that work well with Ghost saddles:

(1) Felt Panel Shims. These shims are designed to be inserted into the front of the Velcro opening inside the saddle's panels. These soft shims are minimalistic and provide a clean look since they're placed inside the equipment and are not visible once installed. Sold as a set of four, use one set for a 1/4" lift or both together for a 1/2" lift.

(2) Felt Pad Shims. These shims are designed to be are inserted into the front of the saddle pad. This option is ideal switching the saddle between horses and only one of them needs shims. These shims are layered on top of the saddle pad inserts. Sold as a set of four, use one set for a 1/4" lift or both together for a 1/2" lift.

(3) Velcro Pocket Shims. These are a 2cm thick wedged shim and cut from the same material the Ghost saddle pad inserts are made of. They're placed on the underside of the saddle's base and provide the biggest lift of all the shim types. Velcro pocket shims are designed to be used with both Ghost panels and the Ghost western skirt.

Billet Strap Protectors

These handy little sponge bobs slide onto the billet straps and help cover the gap between the end of the short flap saddle pad and the start of the girth, this protects the horse's side from becoming potentially irritated from direct contact with the BioThane billet straps.

The square shape fits the Sliding V English Rigging and the angled shape fits the Fixed Y English Rigging.

Sold as a pair.

Black micronappa with neoprene or sympanova backing are kept in stock, other colors or materials may have to be ordered from Italy (typically a two month turnaround time).

If the color and/or material choice you're looking for is not listed, please contact me to obtain information regarding price and availability.

New Ghost Seat

Most of the Ghost saddles have interchangeable seats as long as the seat size remains the same. Classic and Cavallin lines don't all transfer. This is a great way to have an entirely different saddle for summer vs winter or show ring vs trail or a synthetic seat for rainy weather. Check individual model for associated price. Ghost Girth

For those who have heard of Westip girths, which are popular in Europe, Ghost has teamed with Westip to make a custom elastic webbing with the Italian flag colors. The entire length is slightly elastic for comfortable grip to the horse. Great help if saddles slip front-back or side-side on your horse. These girths are also very thin, so if your horse is smaller or the saddle is likely to put the girth into the armpits of your horse, the Ghost Westip is a great choice. Girths are available in 5cm increments. 60cm is roughly 24".
$70.00

Ghost seat reducer

Velcro wedge to reduce seat size about 2cm (1/2-3/4"). It has a bit of cushion as well. One of the great features of Ghost saddles is that since the seat is removable, it's possible to change the shape and size of the seat for the rider. Ghost makes a nice velcro wedge to reduce the seat about 1/2" - 3/4" of an inch. It's cushy as well. I also have some homemade wool felt pieces I make that can do the job as well as have addition features for growing/changing riders. They're two pieces, one 1/2", one 1/4" that can be used together or separately for 1/4" incremental changes. Great for people who change weight through the year or growing kids or also people who share saddles. If you're between seat sizes, using seat reducers, pommel bolster, and a seat saver can all have an effect and the seat reducers and bolster also have a small effect on creating a deeper seat - see the pic with the felt reducers.
