Seat Savers - Zalea (full coverage)

Ghost makes Wool and Sheepskin seat savers that are designed to fit perfectly to your saddle's seat size and model shape.

The Zalea is a full coverage seat saver that attaches to your saddle with sturdy velcro straps that are set between your saddle's base and panels. Additionally, the saddle's flap fits into a built-in pocket on the seat saver, this ensures it will not shift or bunch under your legs.

Seat Savers aid to prevent skin irritations like chafing and rub marks, if you have any sensitivity to your saddle's seat or where your leg rests on your saddle's flap. They are a fantastic accessory that offers some cush for your tush!

Zalea's are offered in several choices of material:
(1) Wool Blend that comes in either Black or Brown and covers the saddle's seat and flaps, but not the thigh blocks.
(2) Vella is medical grade synthetic lambskin. It's easy to care for and offers a soft, breathable barrier between you and your saddle's seat. Vella is only offered in white and covers the saddle's seat, flaps, and thigh blocks.
(3) Standard Sheepskin is offered in either natural, black, or brown. It is low profile and measures approximately 1/2" (1 cm) thick. It covers the saddle's seat and flaps, but not the thigh blocks.
(4) Medicinal Natural Sheepskin is a cream/yellow tan color, the sheared wool length measures approximately 1 Inch (2.54 cm) thick. Sheepskin is more durable and comfortable than it's synthetic alternatives. It covers the saddle's seat, flaps, and thigh blocks.
(5) Exclusive Sheepskin is offered in a wide variety of densities, long fibers, colors and patterns. It covers the saddle's seat, flaps, and thigh blocks. Pelt inventory changes often. If this option is selected, you will be contacted to choose from the available pelts currently available.

All Zalea options are custom ordered from Italy. They are not eligible for exchange or return. The turnaround time varies, but is most often approximately two months.

The website automatically charges a flat $10.95 shipping fee. Larger accessories, such as full seat savers, are sent via UPS and the shipping cost varies based on location. You will be contacted by me to approve an exact shipping amount.

Shims

Shims are a fantastic resource to help ensure proper fit and balance of the saddle for both horse and rider.

Shims aid in support and adjust for a better saddle fit by lifting the front of the saddle off the horse's shoulders, allowing better working range of motion and avoiding the rider placing unintentional pressure and stress near the withers. Shims can offer the necessary lift to balance the rider and avoid putting the horse on his forehand.

Depending upon where your horse's anatomy and motion affect the saddle's placement and movement, the rider may feel tipped forward in their saddle's seat, shims can assist in leveling out the saddle.

Additionally, as your horse's physique changes, shims are intended to be modified and adjusted to assist in maintaining balance if a horse is downhill, has one shoulder larger than the other, starts or stops consistently in exercise, changes shape with growth or aging, etc.

If your horse has one shoulder larger than the other, add shims the side of the smaller shoulder. Panel shims or pad shims work best to correct this issue.

If your horse is downhill, pocket shims provide the biggest lift to the front of the saddle and work best to correct this issue.

There are three different types of shims that work well with Ghost saddles:

(1) Felt Panel Shims. These shims are designed to be inserted into the front of the Velcro opening inside the saddle's panels. These soft shims are minimalistic and provide a clean look since they're placed inside the equipment and are not visible once installed. Sold as a set of four, use one set for a 1/4" lift or both together for a 1/2" lift.

(2) Felt Pad Shims. These shims are designed to be are inserted into the front of the saddle pad. This option is ideal switching the saddle between horses and only one of them needs shims. These shims are layered on top of the saddle pad inserts. Sold as a set of four, use one set for a 1/4" lift or both together for a 1/2" lift.

(3) Velcro Pocket Shims. These are a 2cm thick wedged shim and cut from the same material the Ghost saddle pad inserts are made of. They're placed on the underside of the saddle's base and provide the biggest lift of all the shim types. Velcro pocket shims are designed to be used with both Ghost panels and the Ghost western skirt.

Ghost Saddle Pads

Ghost makes an extremely nice pad, durable and functional while still remaining affordable. Many people buy these for other saddles including BMSS, Freeform, and even treed saddles.

The pad's topside material is Airshell, a durable fabric that withstands riding long miles and daily use. It is breathable and is offered in a variety of colors to choose from.

Underside material options include:
Sympanova - soft rubber in a waffle pattern, easy to clean, breathable. Not recommended for extremely hot climates (AZ, TX, etc)
White, Black, or Brown wool blend - moisture wicking, durable, good shock absorption
Vella - medical grade synthetic lambskin, extra protection for providing spine channel clearance. Great choice for long distance riders!
Medicinal Sheepskin - a dense, thick wool that is an excellent choice for sensitive skinned horses, distributes pressure more evenly, stops friction, absorbs moisture. This backing can be a slightly slicker, not recommended for wide horses with a low/mutton wither.

1cm inserts are standard. This thickness works great for a large majority of horses.
2cm inserts are recommended if the rider exceeds 185lbs or if the horse has an atrophied back, this option may be a better choice to ensure your horse's spine is well protected.

All pads are shimmable. Access to the pad inserts is from a velcro opening on the side of the pad.

Black pads with Sympanova backing are most often in stock.

All other pad options are custom ordered from Italy. They are not eligible for exchange or return. The turnaround time varies, but is most often approximately two months.
